lifevips created a new topic ' How to Make a Mojito' in the forum. 3 years ago

One of the most ordered cocktails in the world, the mojito has the ability to transport you to a sun-drenched beach with a single sip. But more often than not, mojitos made at home fall short of those served in bars, so we asked some of the UK's best bartenders for their top tips so you can up your mojito game!

The Mojito is as refreshing as a Caribbean breeze. It's a little bit sweet and citrusy fresh, with bright mint laying cover for the earthier bite of rum that makes the drink's base. It's as Cuban as a cocktail can be, dating back to the 1600s. And in this century, it has become wildly popular for downing in the hotter months.

How to Make a Mojito: Practical Tips
Muddling
Muddle the limes and sugar in a glass until the sugar dissolves. This is easiest with a muddler, but you can use the end of a rolling pin if you don’t have one.

Preparing the Mint
The flavours of mojito are simple, so it’s important that you make each one shine.

Smack the mint between the palms of your hands to release the aromas before you add it to the glass and muddle.

Finishing Off
Fill the glass to ⅔ full with ice and pour in the rum.

Top with soda water (not too much or it will overwhelm the other flavours), stir, garnish with a sprig of mint and slice of lime and serve.

The construction

6-8 mint leaves
25ml sugar syrup (1:1)
25ml lime juice
50ml rum

Slap the mint and add to the bottom of the glass. Fill with crushed ice. Add the sugar syrup, lime juice and rum. Take a bar spoon with a flat bottom and use the disc to churn the mixture. Add more ice and churn again. You're looking for a frosting on the outside of the glass so that you know the mix is super cold. Cap with more ice so that the glass is full and the ice glistens on top. Add soda if you want to/if there's room at this point. Take your mint sprig and clap it between your hands to release the oils, then place next to a straw in the glass.

If there’s something that we’re really serious about, it’s crafting a good cocktail. That’s why lifevips.com have a massive variety of premium Bar Tools for you to choose from, including cocktail bitters, cocktail garnishes and cocktail syrups.
